Older mobile phone numbers (those that do not begin 07xxx) will also be changing. The biggest change which will affect most people is the change of the London phone numbers. The two regional dialling codes, 0181 and 0171 are to be replaced by one code, 020. Phone numbers currently in the 0171 region inherit a 7 prefix, and numbers currently in the 0181 region inherit an 8 prefix.
There are many industry websites and free helplines to assist everyone move to the new systems, and we have summarised them below. BT has introduced a free enquiry line service where you can ask your own questions, call them free on 0800 731 0202. Keep your eye on the national press, as the Industry frequently takes out full page adverts informing us of the changes, and the press give good coverage to the changes.
